The trench is 15 metres in front of the 5 shooting positions that will take, in turn, the 6 shooters who make up what is called the squad. The clays are thrown away from the shooter by 3 trap machines. The angle and speed at which the clay target is thrown (left and right of the shooter), are constantly changing and should appear random and unpredictable. The angles are adjusted between 0° and 45°, right or left. A match of trap consists of 5 rounds of 25 clays. The shooter activates the trap machine by way of a microphone. The gun is shouldered before the target is visible. As each target is released, the shooter is allowed two shots. Are permitted as firearms, any shotgun with a calibre no more than 12 and cartridges loaded with no more than 24 grams of pellets. After the qualification round of 125 targets, the top six competitors advance to a 25 “flash” clay targets final round (they release a fluorescent powder when they shatter). The result of this final round is added to the preliminaries.
